Thanks for this video because I was about two seconds from cutting mine off. I knew nothing about locs but always wanted them. So almost two years ago I cut my hair down to the new growth and finger twisted. Because I work at a factory and my department is very dirty, I keep my hair covered with scarves and head wraps. This seems to cause my scalp to smell sour in a couple of days so I have to wash it often. Is there anything I can do to stop the odor? Does this happen to anyone else? Please h

I remember once when I was very early into the loc'n process I was standing in the cosmetics section at Target and a girl leaned over to her friend and whispered (so she thought) "that's really a man" She was referring to me. I just stood there and stared at her while her friend tried to figure it out. Me standing there with a full D cup, tight jeans, a t-shirt, and spiral twists, earrings but no make up. I was so offended I couldn't say anything. I don't think her friend agreed. *.*

The only reason I want locs is because I am lazy lol. I love to wash and condition my hair but I hate detangling!! I keep my hair in extension twists most of the time anyways I am going to try yarn braids and see how they look on me before I make my final decision.

lots of us have been mistaken for a guy. as for myself, it was because of the way i was dressed. i can see that being the case for you too, but not that you don't have a feminine face -- YOU DO! people just don't pay attention and see clothes first. PS: i have locs too but wear more comfy skirts --

@JJolaine I really never had a problem with gel build up but that is definitely a downside, thanks for sharing =)

@TheGenderqueer01 well congrats on starting your journey! I've never tried honey and aloe for my locs so I have no idea. couldn't be too bad...

I get what you're saying totally. I've been loc'd for 4yrs now and I've been contemplating combing mine out. Sometimes I miss my loose hair BUT I know I'm not going to want to deal with daily dealings with my hair. I didn't spend a lot of time with my natural loose hair before loc'ng but I quickly tired of two stand twisting my hair, taking them down, retwisting them, etc. I didn't like wearing puffs often.

@mslabooks lol I was the same way with my loose natural hair...besides the fact that I loved wearing my puff
