Here is a small video of the two stones I used in the video "Measuring the Specific Gravity with hydrostatic scale in Gemology ". The CZ is on the right side and show a lot of fire comparing to the diamond. The matter here is that the diamond have only a good cut and symmetry and that play a lot on how the light is travelling into the stone.
The objective here is to show that people who do not know about diamonds and gemology can be fooled very easily by a nice imitation and CZ is the best in the market today and cost nearly nothing comparing to a natural diamond.

Remember that the CZ have a density nearly twice higher than the diamond and you can feel it in you hand.
Sorry for the bad quality of this video...

  • In fact, you can find flawless diamonds but they will be very expensive. Keep in mind the hardness of the CZ (8, 8.5) is not the same as diamond (10). Synthetics diamonds: the problem today is to grow diamonds rough (HTHP method) to make cut diamond around 1 carat or less. Bigger are not usual. It is not so easy to grow them and especially big one, clean and white. New method like CVD make clean synth. diamonds but they are very small for now, like under 0.50 carats. Yes, it is matter of time.

  • Of course! The CZ alway show a lot of fire.

Dispersion is 0.065 - diamond is 0.044 so more dispersion for the CZ = more fire!

Refractive index is 2.17 - diamond is 2.42 they are close and that let the CZ to be cut like a diamond.

  • Good quality well cut CZ is amazing, unlike diamond the CZ has no cloudyness or carbon, no cracks or flaws, its just so beautiful and costs a fraction of the price! Id never buy a diamond they are so overpriced and with labs growing better quality diamonds than the ones coming out of the ground, diamonds will soon drop in value too, esp. when big scale mass production starts, its only a matter of time.

  • let me guess the one on the right is CZ?

  • CZ generally looks different and you will look cheap with CZ lol

  • I liked that you moved the light source and not the stone. Makes it easier to see. They are both lovely, and I can see how someone would mistake the two if not for other ways of knowing. (although I do see some lovely fire in the CZ!)
