Teresa Carreñno (1853-1917), who was born in Caracas, Venezuela, became a widely traveled pianist upon completing her studies in Paris, and gained worldwide fame by virtue of her absolutely virtuoso keyboard performances.

She won recognition also through her third marriage to Eugen d'Albert, and as a singer, composer of piano music and as the directress of an opera company. Endowed here and there with perfumed charm, most of her piano pieces are intended largeley to oblige the bourgeois salons of the day.
