Background:
In GE 2006, Shin Leong led a WP youth team to contest Ang Mo Kio GRC which was helmed by PM Lee Hsien Loong. Together, the team secured 33.86% of the votes.

Shin Leong is a Managing Partner of Easto Global LLP and a Business Lecturer at a private college. He holds an MBA from the University of Western Sydney and a BA (Merit) degree in Political Science and Sociology from the National University of Singapore.

After his father passed away when he was 13, his widowed mother struggled to bring up both his younger sister and himself, supporting them through tertiary education. He was an active student leader who held various leadership appointments. His student activism led to his involvement in political activism. From May 1999 to April 2000, he helped out with various grassroots activities in the opposition ward of Potong Pasir, after which, he became a Partner and Project Director of the political-civil group, The Think Centre until May 2001.

Shin Leong joined The Workers' Party in June 2001 and has held various appointments throughout the years, including Legislative Assistant to Low Thia Khiang, MP for Hougang, Councillor of Hougang Town Council, Secretary of Hougang Constituency Committee, GRC Area Committee, & Northern Area Committee, Co-Secretary of Eastern Area Committee, Deputy Organising Secretary, Chairman of the Youth Action Committee, EXCO Member of the WP Youth Wing, and Webmaster.

Shin Leong blogs regularly at http://yawshinleong.blogspot.com. In December 2010, he published a Chinese book 'Towards Political Vibrancy & Development' (迈向政治发展与繁荣). This is a translation of selected blog posts which include his reflections on more than 10 years of political participation.

Philosophy:
Shin Leong is a staunch believer in National Defence & served as a company combat medic in his NS battalion. He is currently with the Singapore Armed Forces' ROVERS (Reservist on Voluntary Extended Reserve Service) program.

He is against political hegemony and is a dedicated activist for the development of Singapore's political defense via the establishment of a credible alternative presence in Parliament.

Shin Leong lives in Bukit Panjang, does hiking, swimming & reading in his leisure time. He keeps pets and volunteers at his Teochew clan association, the Nanyang Pho Leng Hui Kuan where he served as an Auditor with its 50th Working Committee (2009/2010).
