President John and Barbara Peters welcomed local families Friday evening for a celebration of the holiday season inside historic Altgeld Hall.
Fridays event delivered a fun-filled evening of career discovery where children could explore their dreams of becoming police officers, nurses, musicians, scientists and more.
At the science station, children learned what makes rockets go and how figure skaters can spin so quickly. At the health care professional station, they learned good tips for flu season. At the engineering station, they learned about green technology and the technology behind NASCAR vehicles. At the money manager station, they explored shopping, savings, investing and donating.
Children also made crafts holiday parachutes complete with festive paratroopers, based on the popular book, What Color is Your Parachute? and served pizza to their parents at Pizzeria Ellington.
The occasion to visit with President and Mrs. Peters rounded out the evening.
