Transitions allow you to add different effects to your video that allow for creative movement between clips.
To access them in Final Cut Pro X, click on the appropriate button in the bar that separates the Viewer from the Timeline. Clicking this button will reveal the Transitions browser.

You have many options to choose from in this browser, including Blurs, Dissolves, Lights, Movements, Objects, Clones, Wipes and Stylized transitions.

Browse through the different options available and preview them without adding them to your Timeline.

When you find one you like and want to add it to your video, click and drag on the transition and drop it on the Timeline between two video clips. If you want to get rid of it, click on it and press Delete on your keyboard.

When you add a transition to the Timeline, you can make changes to it by right-clicking on it to reveal an options menu.
You can Change the Duration of the transition, Expand or Collapse the Audio/Video or Show the Precision Editor.

The Precision Editor allows you to make changes to the transition as precisely as possible by dragging it around and setting it up however you like.

Press Close Precision Editor at the bottom of the Timeline to return to the normal view. Play around and experiment with the transitions to discover something you like.
