Richard Ubaldo was elected as a Selectman and Chairman of the Bethlehem NH Select Board in March 2008, after the most expensive and corrupt campaign in the history of local politics. Ubaldo is a surrogate of Casella Waste Systems (Casella), a corporation with one half of a billion dollars in annual revenues, and best friends with Kevin Roy, the manager of the North Country Environmental Services landfill in Bethlehem owned by Casella.
Bethlehem has spent considerable time and efforts getting the proposed landfill controlling House Bill 1429 (HB 1429) passed in the NH House of Representatives. Now HB 1429 needs to be heard before the NH Senate. Casella has nine lobbyists that have been working to defeat the legislation, Bethlehem has one.
One of Ubaldo's first actions was to contact the Town's lobbyist and NH State Senators and notify them that Bethlehem's position has changed, and that the Town now favors a landfill expansion. Ubaldo deflects and denies allegations from the Select Board that he acted in his own best interest instead of Casella's. Filmed on April 7, 2008.
