Conga Lesson-Basic 4/4 Tumbao for Salsa/Charanga, etc..
Tumbao or "La Marcha" Variation with Conga Master David Ortiz "La Mole".

Leccion de Timbas-Tumbao Basico de Salsa, Son, etc. 4/4
Variacion del Tumbao o "La Marcha" con el Maestro de Timbas David Ortiz "La Mole".

The Tumbao is one of, if not the most common conga rhythms played for all types of music in 4/4. There are many variations of the basic tumbao, including playing the tumba on the 3-side of the clave.

Pay close attention to hand position on the drum.

The classic Charanga is mostly played with only 1 conga(see old style tumbao lesson).

This basic tumbao pattern is played on every 8th-beat in the measure in the following sequence: notice the 2 hits being placed on the & of 1 and the & 2 of the 3 side of the clave..

2 Side of clave
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & Count
P T S T P T O O Tone
L R L R R L R R Hand Used

3 Side of Clave
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & Count
P O P O P T O O Tone
L R L R L L R R Hand Used

Key:
L: Left hand
R: Right hand
P: Palm of hand
T: Tip of hand
S: Slap
B: Bass
O: Open Tone
