@ManekiNeko1972 No. The movies and TV shows were corny up until the late 80s, but the comics had largely returned to their gothic roots sometime in the 70s. Maybe not quite as dark as today's, but still pretty grim and gothic.

@Sukuraidogai I thought the same thing and it took me like six months to actually "Get it". What you have to remember is that Batman was revamped to be dark, brooding and tortured in 1986. Before that, there were comics and TV shows that were lighter in tone. This is more an homage to the Batman shows / comics from 1955-1985.

If you get that it's darker in tone from the shows/movies of the '50s/'60s/'70s, yet lighter in tone than the shows/movies of the '80s/'90s/'00s, you'll enjoy the show.

@LordManda2 Sorry, I don't like this iteration of Batman. But for some reason it appears on my recommended videos list, maybe because I constantly watch Batman shows that were actually good... like the 1992 animated series and Batman Beyond. Frankly, this version is boring and sucks so much in comparison.

@Sukuraidogai How about you actually WATCH the show before making a comment like that? Mongul claims the he has a super-weapon pointed at Earth and the heroes and villans have to GROUND race, and the winner wont have their home-town incinerated. Therefore everyone has to abide by Mongul's rules if they dont want Gotham, Star City, Jump City, ect, blown up.
