In the early 1940's the US Government forced many settlers off their land in Western North Carolina. They wanted their land in order to build a dam to create electricity for the war effort. The Government promised a road to replace the one flooded by the lake. But the road was never built and the settler's land (that wasn't flooded) was given away to the National Park Service. This is the story of an American Trail of Tears.
