I thought you should have included a remote control as one of the basic recommendations, opposed to the versatile LCD screens and the gorillapod. That would be a more versatile tool in the long run, whereas the LCD screen gets old rather quickly. The gorillapod is useful in many situations, but also redundant in many, a simple tripod may even do a better job.
The remote however, will allow you to take multiple shots rapidly. Its better than running back and forth between the self-timed shots.
