12lb 3oz Channel Catfish

Got this one on trotline using small bream - also got another small one (4 this week) on magic bait - my neighbor loves the little ones - in fact she was standing behind me when I made this video waiting on her little one for supper :) :)

I use chicken liver / chicken blood flavor (which is popular and sometimes hard to find around here) Magic bait works very well for this time of year ) - but you don't get many large catfish - mostly small channels (which is what some prefer)

Shad below the spillway - come and go - best results are when gates are closed and small amount of water runs under some gates - BUT the shad are mostly small (most are 3-4" range) - good for rod n reel fishing IMHO but not great for trotline

oops I forgot - small 1 to 2lb channel catfish are still biting on magic bait - at night on yoyo's - my neighbor is glad - but most are too small to 'mess with'

The weather fronts - rain - high water in lake despite fact they have 5 gates open at spillway (and water is still 5" above the closed gates - plus high wind - make fishing report very difficult e.g. not many people going out - and almost constant changing water level and temperature - only fish I've seen are kids catching small bream and few small crappie Summary: not many people having fish fry right now :(

the biggest channel i ever pulled in was a 10 pound cahnnel i caught it on a bluegill it wasnt even sitting their a minute and the drag started strippin

what flavors of magic bait do you use? does it work pretty good? can you catch shad below the spillway often? thanks

Nice catch! I would love some catfish tonight. We live near catfish lake that ironically, has catfish.
