A promo and local ad break, CBS and WCAU, from January 24, 1987. Here's the list.

1.) CBS Special Movie bumper - part of what is, in my opinion, one of the best CGI animations ever used on television.

2.) A promo for Hard Copy - but not the Hard Copy you probably just thought of! This was a short-lived 1987 series that debuted after Super Bowl XXI. The young reporter is actually Dean Devlin, in his acting days and before he made the most awesome movie of all time (Independence Day).

3.) A "Hey, we can use a DVE!" promo for Cagney and Lacey. The 1986-87 "Share the Spirit" designs used by CBS have always been a favorite of mine.

4.) A promo for the also short-lived "Wizard".

5.) "This is CBS". Gaylord Avery announcing, I think.

6.) Local ad time: Patrick O'Neal for WEAZ EAZY 101. WEAZ is now the very successful WBEB B-101, but is still owned by the same local ownership; one of the last of its kind.

7.) A New Jersey Lottery ad with Governor Tom Kean - if you play the lottery, do you know your gambling money helps handicapped children?

8.) WCAU promo and ID - "Challenger: One Year Later".

  • That sounds like Ron Rolland doing the V/O @ 1:50

  • Yes it is. Ron Rolland did voice work for WCAU periodically, even up to the switch.

  • I love how it starts out, "We will return to Joan Rivers and Liza Minellie in "The Muppets Take Manhattan." That made me laugh.

  • "if you play the (NJ) lottery, do you know your gambling money helps handicapped children?"

In Pennsylvania, the lottery is supposedly used to help the elderly.

The New York Lottery says their funds go to education.

  • That was 1 day before Super Bowl XXI.

  • What time did The super Bowl start and what all aired after that?

  • Yeah. I didn't know he was used there that early. WLS-TV is starting to phase Ron Rolland out after 19 years at the station. They're using Roger Rose for all the new promos & many teases. Rather sad. He's make great V/Os.

  • anyone know if Gaylord Avery is still living.

  • That actually is Gaylord Avery doing the Network ID.
