Engineering an Empire - The Aztecs Part 1
In less than 200 years the Aztec's transformed themselves from a band of wandering nomads to the greatest civilization the New World had ever known. What records remain of this amazing feat indicate they did it through brilliant military campaigns and by ingeniously applying technology to master the harsh environment they faced. They built their capital city where no city should have been possible: in the middle of a lake. The Aztec also practiced human sacrifice on an unprecedented scale and made many enemies. By the time the Spaniards landed they had no trouble recruiting tribal allies to destroy the Aztecs. Watch with host Peter Weller as we examine the architecture and infrastructure behind the New World's greatest, and last, indigenous society.
@MrLinguaphile I don't think she had much to do with the burning of Alexandrian library.

@dreicemoney The aztecs did invent the wheel but they had no beasts of burden.

if they had the wheel it would have made their work a bit easier.

Aztecs had somewhat savage religion and shitty metal production technologies, primitive transportation, otherwise they were very advanced people. Maya people were somewhat even more advanced, but in time of conquistadors they were not in the best condition and already after long years of decline.

Oh my God, all of the lost knowledge! It's as bad as the burning of the library of Alexandria! Why, oh why does knowledge always have to end in fire!? I sob with the thought of what we have lost forever! Curse you Cortés! And curse you Cleopatra!

@supersmash43 Yeah it is a shame they actually found thousands of scrolls and burned them!! That is why you never burn books, the lost knowledge makes me cry. Same thing with the inquisition and cities being sacked and books being lost. Those friars I thought had more sense than that, they studied latin history.
