The Storm That Almost Got Me

Intense lightning and near continuous thunder! Expanded video of the Labor Day 2002 storm that destroyed ladysmith wisconsin where I got knocked down by lightning.

The storm looked like it was on LSD and I noticed a lot of weird effects with this storm as I tried to video it's approach. First I've never before or since seen lightning do the things it did that night. Second of which was my normally reliable Canon ES290 camera which was acting up that night in that it kept saying I had a dead battery and shutting off when I was trying to use a brand new and fully charged one which forced me to use an inverter with the AC power supply causing the buzz you hear on the audio. I didn't want to plug it into an outlet for obvious reasons. Also the mic cut out a few times which has never happened before.

What happens at the end of the video is the lightning hit in the neighbors yards ~ 100 feet away. The emp travels through the ground to me, giving me a nasty shock, causing me to fly backwards resulting in the glitching you see in the video. The camera stops at the end when I hit the ground and the power cord to the camera pulled it self free of the AC adapter.

The camera still worked, but it was never the same again. I think it got some of the EMP also.

It's strange how I will run outside as soon as I hear the sirens to look for a tornado, yet you CANNOT get me outside during a heavily-charged thunderstorm. I've seen first-hand what lightning can do...

standing next to a large tree like that during a thunderstorm....in a thunderstorm is one of the worst places you could be. I'm glad you are alive after that through!
