This is a my degree project, I am building a MoCap system using the Kinect sensor, connecting it to Maya using the Kinect SDK and Python script. Data is streamed from the device using the OSC protocol.
The client application is built on the Kinect wrapper for Cinder made by Stephen Schieberl.

  • When do you plan to release your work as a plug-in tool or open source directly? I am currently a graduate student and my research need such a great tool to real time stream the mocap data into maya. It would also be great to cooperate with you on some research if you will continue your study in college~

  • @turbalman I don't think it's ready for public release, but If you need the source code, I can send it to you, if it is only for research purposes. contact me!

  • do i need any kind of adaptor or windows can find the device?

  • @TheGennaios The Microsoft SDK provides the needed drivers for windows to detect the sensor

  • This is great. Are you planning on making this open source by any chance? It would be a great gift to the community!

  • @luisalbertocayo Most probably I will!!

  • @geofahim yeah i know, that's why i am asking, for example openi doesn't support head rotations or has problems with wrist rotations, i was wondering why i haven't seen programmers making motion capture software with the sdk - till i saw your youtube vid....so i guess i'll be watching you :)

  • @TheTargetView Windows claims that Kinect SDK handles skeletal tracking better than OpenNi used in Brekel. I am not really sure about that, but I am satisfied with the quality I am getting.

IPi is not realtime, it should provide better quality.

  • cool, how is the jitter compared with ipisoft and brekel ?

  • @Mrjazzyguy82 Thanks a lot ya sadiky :)
