@OfShadowandSubstance And I thought I was the only one not getting why Casablanca is such a popular classic. Nothing against Bergman, Bogart and Henreid, but the story just didn't thrill me as much as I thought it would and Ingrid Bergman & Humphrey Bogart just didn't convince me as a couple, as much as I like them individually. Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner, on the other hand, DID convince me. What a chemistry!

@WSenator1 Meh. Casablanca is overrated.

@Bombeni - Just like the folks who put together "Casablanca" some time before this movie.

@marcxopoco indeed!

this movie is amazing...truly amazing

Looked it up! $2,500 in 1946 is like $27,400.00 in 2009 using the Consumer Price Index.

Queenie's beliefs saved the Swede, for the time being, and she became his beneficiary.

If anyone were to remake this version of "The Killers," they would probably make it more in tune with 2010, in terms of taking out all the references to God (for instance, Queenie convincing Burt Lancaster's character not to commit suicide because if he succeeded, he couldn't "see the face of God.") LOVE this movie!!
Queenie is a terrific actress.

Little did these actors know, when they were making a movie they probably thought was just another run-of-the-mill contract fulfillment, that they were creating one of the greatest film legacies of all time!
