The Winchester House is noted for the eccentricities of the woman who was constantly building the structure to house spirits of those killed by the Winchester Rifle. Her only child and husband had passed on and she believed that she was cursed by her husbands invention of the Winchester Rifle.
She was a remarkable wealthy woman who lived her life as she thought fit as a single person. Which was rare for those days. From upstairs she could look straight into the kitchen to watch the cooks. Rumor has it that she had a fear of being poisoned by a certain relative, to hungered for her wealth......
That was not unheard of in those days, either. A wealthy woman was a target for the unscrupulous......
There are public tours available and every Friday the 13th there is a special night time tour! If you are ever in the area, visit the mansion and remember that it is Mrs. Winchester's home.
