This film depicts the Loring Air Force Base Alert Force as it was configured for 1958. By 1958, all of the B-36 Peacemaker bombers were long gone from Loring Air Force Base. The 42nd Bombardment Wing had some B-52 Bombers on Alert Status. In addition, a number of B-47 Bombers from other Bombardment Wings throughout the Strategic Air Command were staged at the base on NUCLEAR Alert Status. These were known as Reflex Action Alert Aircraft.

  • How many years between the b36 being replaced by the b47? and then the b52 replacing the b47?

  • @RFKFANTS67 Re: Q: How many years between the B36 being replaced by the B47? and then the B52 replacing the B47? A: Actually the B-52 was the replacement for the B-36 (Both long-range strategic bombers). The B-47 was designed as a Medium Range Strategic Bomber, and was phased out as more B-52s were put into the Air Force and also when the B-58 Hustler came on-line. There were so many more B-47s built however than the B-58.

  • @380BMWSAC Thank you for taking the time to reply, And I forgot all about the B58 During that stretch in the Cold war alot of planes were developed in succession for sure. I'm going to youtube the B58 now as I forget what they looked like, and it will refresh my memory

  • Great video.

Anyone know what the background guitar music is and who is playing? Thanks.

  • In hindsight, one realizes Loring AFB has its share of SAC history, being a big player in the Cold war. 1958, my birth year, makes you realize how many people have come before you.

  • @kolbpilot We were at Boring Loring from 80-82. I see we weren't the only ones who called it boring.

  • Great Place, I was there 92-94... Supply, P+D driver so I was always riding around the Base/Flightline... I miss it greatly....

  • 380th was at PAFB

  • 5:02. Looks like a C 130.

  • Boring Loring. I was there in '86-'87 as a jet mech. It's interesting to watch this great colour clip of it. Wonderful shots of the B-47. Its kinda' hard to tell the layout though I see the arch hangar at 0:38. Coming from Ellsworth, I remember how different the flight line layout was compared to it. I like looking at their winter gear as opposed to what we had. Mostly the same except they have real fur on the parka instead of that phony white shit we had. Either way, it was cold.
