Toy, instrument, who cares? It's our purpose in life at Gearwire to unwrap, plug in, poke, prod, and make sing the items that we love - the soundmakers.
Blue Man Group have released their own instruments this season, aimed at kids aged eight and up. Their design is based on the stage instruments they use in their show, so they look cool. But we had to find out about their sounds, interface and if they were suitable for kids to get involved with music.
You might assume that a highly popular stage show / entertainment property such as Blue Man could just lend its name to any old piece of merchandise. The thought crossed our minds. But one thing you notice if you've seen the Blue Man Group perform their gigantic smash hit stage show is that each of them is a musician, and an exceptional one at that. To just pass off some junk instruments for a fast buck would be a betrayal indeed. So how did they do? Check out the Gearwire Labs video to find out. In this video Gearwire's Dan Agosto runs through the Keyboard Experience and in a later vid we take a look at the Percussion Tubes By Blue Man Group. Hold out for a nice Blue Man homage at the end of the vid.

That sounds pretty good. Most toy keyboards are useless, because they have this really long decay and the samples are like 8 bit. I wonder how much it is. I'm always looking for a tiny keyboard for when I want to play real quick.
