The Huay Sawn Huay Sua Agricultural Research and Development centre under HM the King of Thailands initiative is located in Na Saithong in the Vientiane city, Lao People's Democratic Republic.
The centre was established since 1994. It has been conducting studies and developing a new theory of agricultural development.

The new theory of agricultural practice introduced integration of agricultural work in crop planting, livestock, & fisheries together. The successful outcome of the development is used as model for Laotian agriculturalists to apply and lead to comfortable living with good quality of life.
An obvious example falls on a 52 year old farmer at Na Sai Khao village in Vientiane city, Muay Sihawong, who has been successfully applying the theory in farming in a few rai plots of land. The land is wisely utilized being divided into rice farmland with water system, while the pond near home is full of fish.

Water sources also feed varieties of fruit trees. Every square inch of the farm is also a source of feeding for poultry like chicken and ducks. The produce is available all year round and they can feed their family plus use some for commercial purposes.
I started my farm in 2001 on my own with a rice field and some fish ponds. It did not work well then and was not enough to feed my family. Four or five years ago the centre stepped in to support and guide me. It educated and introduced me to the integrated farming. I do rice farming, fish, ducks, and chicken all together in the farm. It works very well and I earn more income and can make a comfortable living.
The revenue generated from this theory is sufficient to feed a 6 children family like the Sihawongs. With educational expenses, the family still has some balance as saving. The integrated farming of this family is a model for the success of the centre. She said HRH Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn paid a visit to the project to follow up the progress of the royal initiated project and praised her for the successful outcome.
HRH Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn graciously visited us. I was very honored. She could see that we could do it well. She kindly donated ducks, chicken and fish. I do appreciate her kindness. My family live healthy and happy life due to her.

The field trip we made to the Huay Sawn-Huay Sua Research and Development Centre in Lao People's Democratic Republic was worthwhile. It was organized by the Thai Public Relations Office region 5 in Suratthani. It reminds us of His Majesty the Kings dedicated and tireless efforts for agriculture development. His work not only led to his own subjects better living conditions, but also extended to beneficiaries in neighboring nations like the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
