One of the six sides released by this famous but short-lived Ozark string band from Searcy, Arkansas. The b-side of this 1928 Victor recording was the Mountaineers' most popular track, "Jaw Bone," which for me at least is THE classic of old-time string band music.
I've illustrated the song with a hodge-podge of photos Googled from the web; none are directly related to the Mountaineers or this particular recording, but all are from the general time frame (1920s) and geographical location (Arkansas or, in the case of the guy with the fiddle and the phone, Texas) so as to attempt to impart a little regional flavor to this beautiful old song.
This specific recording from Volume 1 of County Records' excellent compilation "Echoes of the Ozarks" (the '90s CD version, not the original 1970 vinyl issue).
Thanks Billy -- you've great taste and appreciation for real music!
