Timisoara bypass links DN6 exit to Lugoj with DN69 exit to Arad. It is 12.6 km long with one lane per direction, it has 3 overpases, 5 roundabouts and one grade-separated interchange.

Construction of this road began in January 2003, but the contract was canceled in 2006 because the Greek company that won the tender didn't respect it's part of the deal. After re-tendering, two Romanian companies won and continued the works.

The bypass was opened by the Romanian Prime-Minister and Transport Minister on December 1st, 2009, but it was later closed in June 2010 because the works were not completed. It was reopened again shortly after.

The total cost for this bypass was around 19 million Euro (as the media says), and it was financed by Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

Now this section of Timisoara bypass in completed and opened for traffic.

This is only the first stage of the long-term plan which is to build a complete ring-road around Timisoara, with a total length of over 50 km.

@FreewayBrent I answered you on facebook: Unfortunately no, I don't think that it will be upgraded soon, although they build it with while thinking that it will be upgraded to 2x2 main road sometime in the future.

After Arad - Timisoara and Timisoara - Lugoj motorways will be completed the traffic will be low on this road.

Am dat Like la filmare pentru ca imi place mult, insa centura.......naspa. Cum sa faci frate in jurul unei oras de 320.000 de locuitori, o centura 1x1??? :o....Nu am cuvinte de cata cretinatate beneficiaza cei care fac licitatii si studiul de fezeabilitate.

Centura Timișoarei are prea multe sensuri giratorii. Nu ne rămâne decât să sperăm că finalizarea autostrăzii Arad-Timișoara va reduce simțitor traficul auto în municipiul de pe Bega.
