My 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora, engine running at High Rev's (WOT) - but it surges/falls - MVI 1794.avi. I just had the fuel rail recall done, and also need to 'borrow' vacuum in order to get the FPR to do it's job of reducing fuel pressure at idle. It's doing that now, but I am not sure what other problem I may have?

  • RCFLYER83, Thank you for that information. I did not know there was such a limiter.

So I only have one engine problem, which is the drop in rpm at idle, and occasional roughness.

  • there is a park rev limiter aka governor

it only allows the engine to rev to a specific point when in park or neutral

it can be removed if you reprogram the ecu

    sounds to be about 3krpm

most of the limiters are set to 3k in p/n

the drop when idle along with the rufness is more than likely a mis fire if you rev your engine like that all the time

also sounds like you have some blow by

looks like your motor mounts are a little warn out due to reving high all the time

  • Mine needed a fuel pump. U can get a fuel guage tester for $25 - Harbor Freight to test.

Check to see the spark plugs are getting good spark. Harbor Freight has a tester for $2.50.

Clean the mass air flow sensor. There is a special spray u can get at any auto supply store.

Clean the 'butterfly valve on the intake manifold - special spray for this also.

Also make sure you have good gasoline in it. Try some dry gas, and put in gas from different gas stations.

    Good Luck!

  • mine runs smooth but wen i get to a stop it dies every time, i clean the air intake sensor, i pourd additive in the fuel and oils to clean what ever mite be dirte.

I notice that it dies wen the engine warms up after a few minutes. Can some one help me with this?

  • Sounds like its knocking?

  • Clean your intake sensor with carb or fuel injection cleaner, (comes in spray can)

and after a few miles you fix the problem.

  • maybe the IAC motor,vacuum leak,EGR vavle,tps sensor,map sensor,map vacuum line

  • These cars have all kinds of "safety"/torque/over reving features to keep you from blowing the engine. All Aurora's do that.

  • Sir that would be the nuetral rpm limiter. It keeps you from blowing up your engine.
