Most of all he had to let his gestures and his voice do a shit-ton of acting for him. Dan White's performance was nowhere near as complex as Ledgers. Have you also ignored the fact that Heath's performance is one of the very few in history that makes such an unconventional character feel organic and realistic?
I think it's a little ridiculous how you say that he doesn't know "shit" about movies due to the fact that he didn't choose Heath Ledger -- Ledger did exceptional, but it wasn't that complex of a character. Dan White was. I'm glad Ledger won, but Brolin was awesome. Don't scrutinize others just because they don't share our opinion.
