Carolyn Jessop is an inspiring example - She overcame indoctrination and literally escaped to a better life. Why are some people able to escape cults? Why are some people trapped in indoctrination their entire lives? This book will make you question, and questioning is a good thing.

I gave this talk in February 2009.

  • An excellent synopsis of an incredible story. Well told with excellent graphics.

  • @bonnie43uk - Many thanks :)

  • Interesting talk, thanks for uploading.

It reminds me of the documentary film "Leaving Bountiful", have you seen it? It's about another woman fleeing from the FLDS. You can find it here: watch?v=EDtmFBrh6ls.

I was pretty upset to learn that things like this still happen today in civilized countries.

  • @ConsciousAtoms - Thanks for the link! I'll check it out.

  • Dear lost girl, it DOTH make difference whether you choose Lexmark or Epson.

It has (once) been proclaimed (in days gone by) that only Epson cartridges channel eternal life (after respite in the ground) through a secret ink of spiritual essence. And Lexmark is evil with its seductive pricing.

  • Very upsetting. Religion is horrible.

  • Hi, my name is isaac. i bought that book a couple of weeks ago at a street market in mexico, i got completelly absorbed in its lecture, and i couldnt put it down until i was finished reading it. i was wondering if you knew what happened with her first daughter, betty, since the book tells that she decided to return to live with her father and into the flds cult after she got 18. and at least at the time the book was published, carolyn and her children had lost contact with her. thank you.

  • @ReligiousFiction

I did. We all do. Just watch a sports channel if you can't see what's going on around you.

  • Hey, did you guys hear? Warren Jeffs has been sentenced , yay! I hope the bastard rots in jail for the rest of his unnatural life!

  • This woman is now one of my heroes, or should that be heroines, whatever, because of what she did! I probably could never survive in the FLDS , because I'm very stubborn, and don't submit very easily!

  • @grozde - You're asking me to go back to uni, when you clearly need to take an objective look at the road!

  • what a dumb a

  • @ReligiousFiction So far, what has struck me most has been the horror of plural marriage and the importance of education. Both ideas made it into my recent revision of the ten commandments. I have grown up with educational opportunities all around me. So I hadn't thought too much about what it is like to have educational opportunities restricted. I'm just past where Warren Jeffs stopped her charter school. Unconscionable is the right word to describe that.

  • @ReligiousFiction

It's not "having a vagina" that changes them, but other thing that go with it that do!

You might want to go back to school...

Biology and psychology don't care about political correctness.
