An easy way to pronounce the French "u" is to say "ee" (as in "meet") with rounded lips (same position your lips are when pronouncing "oo" as in "spoon").

You maybe right to pronounce "legume" the way you did at 2:20.
But since this word do not exist in french vocabulary I 'd rather recommend to learn the word "légume" with "é" .It means :vegetable.

french r sounds like hw as in rue sounds like hwu,it sounds more like spanish j with a w
