Erie is where my heart is at. I visit often and would love to retire there someday. I don't get up there much in the winter, and was sitting here feeling blue and searched and found this video. Thank you so much. I'm adding it to my favorites for a pick me up when I need it.

The peninsula is beautiful. I love going there in the summer time. But, the smell of dead fish, the green water and the uncertainty of which beach will be closed that day due to bacteria is very sad. The lake has come a long way since it was declared dead in 1969, but we need to do something about the acidity of the water which causes the lack of O2 which leads to the bacteria. Corps need to stop using the lake as their personal waste dump. Erie residents depend on this as their water source

Presque Isle is awesome. It is such a natural treasure for enjoying nature, recreation anytime of the year. There is nothing like it. Erie is very blessed to have it. I no longer live in PA or near a large body of water.and I miss it.

@nopp873 I agree the as Lake Erie is a great place to go swimming... I've did it for over forty years.... but the water temp (off the beaches) can get up to 77 degrees and sometimes more...

@pmoyer50 there is not a single place in lake Erie where it is not safe to go swimming, at least not around the bay and Presqule. and i have been swimming in the in the bay and i don't even notice any "pollutant" the water is just warmer. As far as temperature goes on a good day the water can be as warm as 65 to 70 degrees. That may sound warm but the water will still feel kinda cold because the air is much warmer.

Where is it safe to go swimming in Lake Erie? How warm does the water get in the Summer? If it's polluted, like many people say, they should make the VIP's of the companies polluting the lake go swimming in the bays. Maybe then, they'll stop dumping their sewage into the lakes. This sounds fair to me.
