Continuing with more music from Kurosawa's filmography, we have here the main title (and theme) from Ikiru ("To Live"). Starring famed Japanese actor Takashi Shimura as a troubled business man dying of stomach cancer, the film happens to be one of the dirctors most human and touching works. Accompaning Shimura's quest for meaning for purpose within the 75 days of life he has left to live is a brilliant score by Fumio Hayasaka, shown here.

  • watching clips of shimura sing the great Ikiru song brings back many memories of interviewing the great actor (along with mifune and kurusawa) during filming of seven samurai. After a press viewing of the uncut Shichinin no Samura I told kurusawa I thought Rashomon and Ikiru in many ways greater films. Nearly 60 years later I still think so. Both Shimuraand Mifune had a great liking for my English cigarettes. John Rickard mitzipars

  • Shimura's character is a bureaucrat, not a businessman, just for point of fact. thanks for the posting.

  • Any chance you can put on the music at the end of the film please?

  • Thank you for that information!

This is a movie experience I will always cherish!

P.S. "GONDOLA NO UTA " , sung by Satsuki Yukino , has been shared by Megaiyume11 , amazing too !

"Hello , Dave ! The star is Takashi Shimura . Here we have one more brilliant performance of this great actor . The song he sings is " GONDOLA NO UTA " . Kalani4433 shared a video intituled " Mid-life crisis from Kurosawa " , showing Shimura singing , it' s absolutely heartbreaking ( but I don't agree with the title , this scene shows much more than a "mid-life crisis " , look at the dancers : they are looking death in the face .)
