whether its before or at the same time its wrong. a step could be the difference of you catching it. so your footwork is very important. but u said its so you wont be flatfooted. its just very bad to do. i could be in 1 spot and be loose and not flatfooted so thats not the reason. its just bad teaching from such a high profile person. i feel bad for the girls. lol

To other commendator(s), I don't think the person is supposed to be taking the 3 steps forward as the ball is being it, but as the pitch approaches the hitter. These 3 steps are over by the time the ball is actually hit, so the fielder is not "in motion" forward or otherwise at the moment the ball is hit, and there is no risk of already moving in the wrong direction. The purpose is so you are not standing flatfooted waiting for the ball to be hit, has you more nimble/loose when the ball is hit.

yes this person is telling them to take 3 steps forward to the ready position. right there mechanically you put yourself in a forward running stance. therefore losing a step backwards if the ball is hit over their heads. your stance/footwork should be equally divided giving an equal chance in all direction.

you should be ready to turn around and run backwards as it takes more time. getting ready to go forward is a dumb idea. and who commits them self to a direction before the ball gets hit. you commit to it once you see where it is going to land and if you judge it right you will be able to catch it

Sorry to say this as your first comment but there are a few things that are wrong for instance your ready position glove foot forward is wrong. your power foot should be forward like a runner going into a sprinting position. also never commit yourself to one direction you lose a step or two if the ball is hit in the opposite direction. there's more but hey who am i to correct this
