@BrianSou69 Well I dare to say that neither Dent or Stephanek are as talented as Sampras. But I know Stephanek is causing some problems for the top players. I agree with you that slower courts and new racket technology must be taken into the equation. Huge returners like Djoko and Murray would certainly be a challenge, but it only means that pete would have to be more careful going to the net immediately upon serve. Pretty sure pete in his prime could have won a slam today. but who knows...
@TomTrix99 They know how to play serve-and-volleyers. Look at Taylor Dent and how unspectacular his career was. Look at Radek Stepanek - top ten player but never won a major. Sampras in today's game would probably be top five. His serve is still the heaviest in the history of the game. But with slower courts and new technology, it's hard to imagine anyone being able to attack the net anymore.
If sampras in his prime entered the atp tour today he would have ruled. None of todays top players (except Federer) knows how to play a serve volleyer. No one except Fed would have a chance, at least on grass and hard courts
