  • Use a good nutritious substrate, like flourite/gravel mix. That is what I use 50/50 black aquarium gravel and red flourite. flourite comes in black as well, just as good. use the chemical "flourish" and iron supplement as directed on the instructions on the bottle. When you clean the aquarium, don't suck up all the gravel too deep with the siphon, just get what is on the surface or about 1/2 inch below. 4-5 inches of gravel, and most importantly good lighting. Reef tank lighting is what i use.

  • No, I actually use tap water with "prime" added before I pour it into the tank. I've used RO water in the past, and it is a better way to go, however I'm lucky and have pretty good tap water to start with. The Prime does the rest and I've had no problems for about five years now. Cardinal Tetras and Discus both do well in this water.

  • Not really, I enjoy the hobby and part of it is maintaining the fish tank. Once a month I do a water change and scrub the glass. Right now it has been about 5 weeks and the algae is getting thick. It will take me about 1 hour to clean it when it is this dirty. But 1 time per month for an hour is not too bad.

  • what were those black and white striped ones?

  • I think you're talking about the panda cory cats.
