  • Hi, do you know if they still make leather belts at all? Are the rubber ones as good, then? I've got this beautiful vintage machine but the leather cord was broken and I didn't have a clue of how to replace it, I'm on a learning curve here! so thanks for the video.

  • @nuttyteacher yes of course they make leather belts, these rubber ones are better more practical but it depends. If your a traditionalist then you would want to use leather to restore the machine as close the the original as you can. But if you like me actually wanted to use the machine to sew with and to mend clothes then go with the more modern rubber.

  • how the two ends of the belt are joined. Explain please as my belt is worn out & i need to replace a new one all by myself. Thx

  • @piriyyaa the cord i used was not the type with hooked end, it had a small mushroom shaped terminal that is pressed into the other hollow rubber tube end. May need a strong pair of hands to do this.

  • Where did you get that spare belt? Do you know where to get spare needles?

  • get belt from "machinemakeover.ecrater.com" you can get needles anywhere SCHMETZ is a good brand

  • @jlumley Thanks for your reply, I have a 1920's Singer number 15 in stunning mint condition which is quite rare and although I'd like to be loyal to the materials originally used in its making I can't keep it as an exhibition piece. My husband already considers it a waste of space so I need to make it sew to prove him wrong! Rubber, then.

  • Thanks friend for the info. I appreciate it.

  • I was in Indonesia last year - They still sell them new! (the sewing machines!)

  • Thank you very much. This video is great.
