The Accused is a 1988 drama film starring Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis, directed by Jonathan Kaplan and written by Tom Topor. Foster was awarded the 1988 Academy Award for Best Actress and Golden Globe Award for her performance.

Based on the real-life gang rape of Cheryl Araujo that occurred at Big Dan's Bar in New Bedford, Massachusetts on March 6, 1983, this film was one of the first Hollywood films to deal with rape in a direct manner.

No man who truly loves women can stand the thought of a woman being raped. If you love women you want to love them, nurture them, and hope they feel safe. You would rather be rejected by every last women on Earth than to think you've hurt even one as tragically as the woman was in this movie.

But she said no. However slutty she acted, she still had the right to say no, just like any other woman does. They have the right to say no

No one but a rapist instigates rape.

Actually that is not true. Only people in certain professions are mandated by law to report certain crime like teachers etc. There was that time in California at the homecoming dance when 10 guys raped some girl and 20 others watched and laughed a bit. Nobody called the police or stopped it and none of them have been prosecuted. However if u falsely report a crime, that is against the law.

Actually it's illegal to watch a crime in process and not act! You don't have to stop them physically but you have to call the cops!

Bystanders should be punished. If you knew about a crime and done not a thing to assist the police in any way, are you not perverting the course of justice? In the UK (and other places) that's a crime, which I think carries a maximum prison term - a life sentence. In California, 2009 a 15 year old girl was gang raped and found under a park bench. People watched, laughed, took photos and joined in. You telling me they should walk? Fuck off.

You know in the real case, they found that there were only 3 other men in the bar besides the rapists; one of them passed out drunk, and the other two (one of them the bartender) tried to get the attackers off of her but where attacked and beaten themselves.......it's kind of inaccurate to portray men as so soulless that they would stand by and actually cheer on a rape.
