Malthouse is a deputy to London Mayor Boris Johnson and keen advocate of a new London airport in the Thames Estuary - the so-called "Boris Island." Johnson had just turned his second People's Question Time, held in Hayes close to Heathrow airport, into a debate/rally for locals who, like him, are strongly opposed to a third runway at Heathrow.

if the idiots realised just how busy Heathrow is they would agree that a third runway is needed the ppl who appose this should actaully take a good look at the facts

Is Boris just on a sad ego trip and looking for an airport / Island to be named after him as a legacy ? An airport in the Thames estuary built from scratch would cost a fortune, and lose flying time to fog / mist and cross winds. Heathrow may be a dump but it does have the infrastructure already in place such as M4/M25, Piccadilly line, Heathrow Express, mains water and electric etc, plus a large local population to staff the place

An airport in the Thames Estuary would be environmental vandalism on a grand scale!
The whole issue was exhaustively investigated between 2002 and 2005 in the Governments Aviation White Paper. The idea of an airport in the Thames Estuary (not just Cliffe) was conclusively ruled out and upheld by the High Court.
