Sound sample of an American handmade Cedar violin in the style of a Baroque violin. The violinist is a student. The piece is an excerpt of the Bach Partita No. 3, Gavotte en Rondeau.

  • I seriously envy your playing skills! Watching you guys play these violins with ease (especially the vibrato) makes me want to try to improve my own skills!

  • @Allaphaidole -- hey thanks...the one thing all violinists have in common is the urge to improve. ugh, i should go practice :(

  • Such a pity the guy was collecting violins for a whole life time and now the collection gets spread all around the world. Would he like that? I'm not blaming the two perfect teenagers for anything, because they have nothing to do with that. Both are very talented musicians and very hard working individuals and I wish the best for them.

It woud have been nice to see a museum of violin somewhere in the U.S. dedicated to that man but now I don't think it's possible.

  • @douskara -- the original owner wanted the violins to be placed in the hands of violinists, especially students, who would benefit from playing on fine, old instruments. it was said that the collection was more of a way to rescue the violins from attics, basements and closets where many had been for years before. always nice to hear from you :)

what a weird thing to say! to keep beautiful instruments stuffed away? in museums? that is like finding beautiful artwork and throwing a sheet over it.

you can't appreciate the violin unless it's played!

  • Really good... Just a little too slow

  • @eboyinc That's a great story! The man was really dedicated to his art. That's what violins are for and it's such a waste of potential divine music when masterpieces are kept in a case, like the Messiah Stradivarius that only serves music as an exhibition item.

  • @olokies -- my brother and i play on nice instruments, but not at the level of some of these amazing instruments in this collection. thats one of the reasons doing this project is so much fun...we get to play on violins and violas that are way above our level.

  • @eboyinc are the two personal violins of urs have good quality like the ones you play in this project?

  • @tephes -- hi, i personally have 2 violins; one that i use for recitals, concerts, etc. and a 2nd one that i keep at school.

you can see our personal violins at our other youtube site,

    Musicasa2ndlanguage --

this is where we post our personal performances.

the violins that my sister and i play on here on eboyinc belong to the estate of a professional violinist who passed away a few years ago. we're helping to catalog the collection which numbers in the hundreds.
