  • But the big question to cvt and it was invented years ago and never deploy to vehicle is, how long does it last untill you have to change the belt?

  • @Tjita1 Wow much nicer! Although mine is a 1L Micra so maybe that plays a part ;)

  • @batlin Test drove a 2.5i with lineartronic the other day. Revs at 50 km/h (about 30 mph) was just over 1000 rpm.

  • @ss19800 That's true, I enjoy driving my CVT but the rev range is always around 2000-2500, even at low speeds, which is a bit annoying. So when I drive a manual I usually stick between 3rd and 4th, leaving the revs comfortable and low for a change :D

  • @Loscaldazar My oldish Micra CVT uses a maraged metal belt (which seems to be a long set of thin rings) and AFAIK so did the slightly earlier Justy (1991 or so?). It's hard to see from this video but it's probably similar.

    So nothing new in using a metal belt for CVTs, but maybe there are some other new developments here which reduce belt shudder etc.

    That said though, CVTs in the Micra at least seem to last as long as a manual gearbox... but replacing them is too expensive when they do fail.

  • ALL BULL SHIT!

    Just buy a manual car for those ppl who preferred manual transmission!

    Whats the point for comment "I prefer manual" on a CVT transmission post?!

  • @ericpinter29

    It's not a belt-it's a metal chain driven CVT which makes it more reliable than other CVT's

    @NastytheGREASERZOMBI

    look above its a metal chain :)

  • hmm. I'd like to know how long these last compared to regular transmissions..

  • @ericpinter29 i think there made of kevlar.... GAWS I HOPE ITS KEVLAR! i hate walking :(

  • so what happens when ur belt breaks
