The most favourite Andhra ( Telugu) Breakfast. Makes any Andhraite drool at its very sight.
Pesara pappu means Moong Dal and Attu is a type of dosai. So together Pesarattu would mean "Moong dal dosa".
The video describes 2 pesarattus not very different from each other. Upma is the best accompaniment for the pesarattu as it complements the crunchy taste and gingerly flavour. So the first recipe in the video describes the method of making upma pesarattu.
The second pesarattu is known to all in Andhra as MLA pesarattu, the king of the Andhra Breakfast table.
There is an interesting anecdote behind this very amusing name.
The second pesarattu in our video looks like a normal pesarattu from the outside but has Upma, Cashewnuts and dry fruits hidden inside. This Pesarattu has become a symbol for the hypocrisy of the ruling elite and hence has been named very aptly as MLA (Members of the Legislative Assembly) pesarattu for it hides all the goodies inside while remaining normal on the outside:).
Ginger is used extensively in this recipe as it is a natural digestive agent and it neutralizes moong dal (pesara pappu) which is normally difficult to digest.
Happy cooking and do ensure that you make crispy pesarattus whenever you have telugu guests at home for highly satisfactory results.

This honking in the background makes me homesick. Miss India so much.
