Love it how at 1:55 Marilyn's attitude changes due to the Belltower's Kiss. A haunting melody....

She was nominated numerous times and won a Golden Globe in 1960 for Some Like It Hot.
I think that's a good achievement.

Fox didn;t give Liz Taylor anything but "Cleopatra"---Liz was an independant star by that time. Her home studio was MGM. Fox did finally give MM a decent role with "Bus Stop" and that was a success. Alas, MM's very best perf, in her company's production of "The Prince and the Showgirl" was ignored in America--the film didn;'t do well here. In Europe it fared much better and she won a number of awards. Surely you don't think MM would have been a proper Cleo?

was Marilyn famous because of her blonde hair and blue eyes?

The public fell in love with Marilyn's dumb blonde act in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the role which launched her to superstardom. Also, Fox tended to treat their sexpot blondes very poorly and gave most of the serious roles to actresses like Liz Taylor. Marilyn's lack of decent roles was what caused her to quit Fox and establish her own production company, but not much success came from this.
