I'm no Hitchcock, but here is the road to San Juan Bautista Calif. Mission (as it appeared in 2008) which can be seen in the 1958 flick. The trees are Australian blue-gum Eucalyptus (E. globulus). The highway (101) was 2 lanes in the movie and now is a divied 4 lane throughway. This stretch is just S. of San Juan and 1.5 hours south of San Francisco.

  • I've been on this road too. It was certainly a surreal experience because I didn't realize I was on it at first. For some reason, seeing it in the movie always had a impact on me, so it was quite amazing to realize I was on it in real life. I stared up at the treetops going by like Kim Novak did in the movie, and the only thing I could blurt out was, "h- holy crap! Vertigo! It's that road!" I felt embarassed that earlier I couldn't place where I'd heard San Juan Bautista before on the signs.
