Treating My Leg - Part One (HD)

My fight to get rid of a nasty skin infection and circulation problem on my left leg i have now had for almost 4 years. I got tired of people asking me how is your leg. So now you can check here and see the progress for yourself.

This began with a simple little blister on my left leg, the blister burst and infection got into the leg, the first infection was cured with Flucloxacillin, but it left scaring where the infection had been and didn't heal and it kept spreading as a red rash like Cellulitis the skin is always shiny and dry, then next stage was my skin burning and skin shedding and ulcerating, cleaning it is very painful as the skin peels off lots and needs constant cleaning to get rid of skin plaques which form.

Doctors or Nurses feel free to comment, because nobody can figure out what is wrong with me or how to cure me. (or they simply can't be bothered with me the NHS is a waste of time too many patients to see and Doctors don't have the needed time to look into all patients properly)
The infection won't heal even with Flucloxacillin 500 mg x 4 a day for 2 weeks and Penicillin VK 500 mg x 4 a day for 2 weeks. The next step is to visit a leg ulcer treatment centre, and have my circulation tested on my legs with ultra sound and my blood pressure checked top to bottom. Then fitted for an Anti-Embolism Stocking.

  • oh mate i have got cellulitis just now and it looks a lot worse than yours i`m a 42 year old man and i`m now getting really frightened.i bet there is nothing encouraging you`ll can say to me?

  • @stevensmith288 Don't worry!. I have had this since 1995. It's sore sometimes and horrible to look at. But it won't kill you!. And anyone who slates you or hates you just because you have a sore leg is not worth knowing any ways. I found out the reason for my legs, it's due to my circulation. There is nothing they can do for me, the infection caused the damage and it simply will never heal due to my circulation. But my friend, there is more serious things in life!... Be strong and smile! :)

  • @stevensmith288 Oops! not 1995, 2005! 6 years now. Everyone is a different case and the Doctors need to work out the root of the problem. So just because my leg won't heal, doesn't mean the same for you. Keep it clean, use your ointment (Epaderm is very good) keep the skin from drying and see what the Doctors can figure out.

  • This will put a white stocking with 10mmHg compression and also a Beige stocking with 30mmHg though you might not need the 30mmHg one. The white stocking makes it easy to pull the compression stockings on, it can be very hard to get them over the foot and heels as they are tight down there. I have been wearing all this for about 2 weeks now and already there is a big improvement, the ulcer is healing well. And the dry skin will heal in time with daily use of Emulsifying ointment. It takes time.

  • I was just thinking more, you said you use Aquacel, sometimes it won't work too well on dry wounds or if there is scabbing. If you do have scabbing, try get it off by using Granuflex Hydrocolloid dressing, it's an old way to remove scabs, keep it on the ulcer for a few days, then remove, the scab should come off with the Hydrocolloid dressing then try the Aquacel again over the exposed ulcer. Just a thought, check with your Doctor though.

  • Hey mate. I have the same thing. Can you post a recent video or get back to me with what else you are doing to get it better. I too wish to get rid of this infection. Tony Nopo

  • my mum is 78 and has had lyphodoema for years. she now has cellulitis that is appearing to be external leg blisters and fluid in the back of the hand. and anywhere else it decides to go. There is no cure it is oonly prevention i.e Dont bite nails etc. My mums legs are 3 times the size of my weight. A Dr Pflug wrote a book about the swollen leg worth checking out.

  • Oh wow! I have this on both my legs and ankles and it hurts very much. I went to a dermatologist yesterday and he took a punch biopsy out of my leg. It's sore but, hopefully they'll get some answers for me soon and get this treated. I have taken prednisone, which is a steroid and eliminated the cellulitis, but as you know, long term use of prednisone causes many other health issues. Maybe you can try that. Good luck mate and I hope you can get that healed up.

  • Ohh I have one right now it hurted so bad i couldn't walk
