Taking Mehalah down through Newbury Lock from the tranquil Kennet & Avon Canal onto the River Kennet, March 2010. The river's in flood and comes in like a hammer from the left, then you're into the maelstrom and it's full throttle all the way through the narrows. Hugging the inner bank to escape the fastest flow but still hitting a ridiculous speed for a navigation with a 4mph speed limit! Then bursting out into slack water and a huge flock of swans. Brilliant, but let's not ever do it again.
