so technicly it is a handheld, due to the fact that you hold the system in your hands while playing, but it technicly isn't a portable, with the lack of a battery powerscorce or a screen.

Whaaa??? The Nomad has good screen quality? Are you high? I got that thing for my birthday and it was such a piece. The screen was backlit but you couldn't even read the startup text on most genesis games. Such crap

I got a Nomad with a few games, a power pack, a wall charger, and a 12 DC car charger for like $45 on eBay. I had to snipe it because it was a bid only item. There were like 30 bids on it.

FYI the "Mode" button was used with some really early Genesis/MD games that wouldn't work right with the 6-button controller. If you held the button while turning the system on, it would trick the system into thinking a normal 3-button controller was connected. All official 6-button controllers had the extra "mode" button.
