Why would you need to buy the commercial rights to an instrumental when you can purchase Non-Profit / Promotional Rights for less than a dollar on http://www.soundclick.com/deadbrokebeats ?
Well, The main differences are the tags get removed and what you are allowed to do with the final project or track that the instrumental is being used on. If you are working on a new project, and you need to get a buzz going with a free sampler or EP then using my instrumentals for $0.75 is a great way to cut down the overhead. However, if you are working on a CD or project that involves you making money off of the songs in any way you need to purchase commercial leasing or exclusive rights.
There are two different licenses you can purchase from Dead Broke Beats. Leasing or non-exclusive rights give some great benefits to the artist (you). Leasing is great for mixtape and underground use, since you can spend significantly less money compared to buying exclusive rights to every track. The other type of license is Exclusive Rights. This entitles you to full ownership of the track as a "Work for Hire" by Dead Broke Beats. Artists usually buy exclusive rights if they are using the instrumental on a large project and dont want to worry about paying royalties to the Producer. Exclusive rights will cost you a lot more money than leasing rights, simply because it is a one time payment for 100% ownership of the track.
Think about it, do you really need to own the exclusive rights to every beat on your CD? In the current music industry there is no reason to lay that much money out to release your project unless you KNOW its going to make that money back. Leasing an instrumental will give you more than enough units to sell to make your investment back with a set royalty if you manage to sell more than 5,000 units. With the variety of beats available online there is no need to own 100% rights to them unless you create a hit.
If your wondering why you cant use my beats free on a project you plan on making money with, the answer is really quite simple. I put time and effort into every beat and instrumental in my catalog, so I'm getting paid if you're making money. When you download a beat for free you have no rights beyond promotional and non profit use. When you purchase an instrumental you receive a license to that track granting you certain rights and privledges. Free beats have no licenses, and no protection by any law. Using them for a profitable project is actually a violation of applicable laws, and I will not hesitate to take action if needed.
You need to understand that although i am willing to give away free beats, I still put a lot of time and effort into that track and giving it away for promotional use only helps both parties out in the long run. It helps you by cutting your overhead, and it helps me get my name out in the rap and hip hop community. Since my leases only cost $19.95, with even better deals on bulk rates, anybody should be able to raise enough money to invest in their project.
