This is a quick video review of the Quansheng TG-UV2. I just kinda monologued for a few min without any particular structure, so feel free to post any questions you might have that I didn't answer and I'll be glad to give you a little more info.

    Yes, this radio is FCC approved. The PTT switch is not a rocker switch however, so it will only transmit on the main frequency and receive on the secondary when you have it set on dual band operation. And I have not tried programming it yet since the software is only available for PCs and not Macs, but the programming cable and free software download are available on Quansheng's website.

    whats the range on that hand held ? 6- 10 miles?

    It depends on your transmitting location. Generally, you should be able to get reliable simplex communication for about 6-10 miles between portables with no obstructions, but I am able to access repeaters that are 30 miles away from my house, which is on top of a ridge. The antenna that comes with it is 7" and has about 2.5db gain, but if you upgrade to a larger whip antenna you should be able to get nearly 4db gain, which will greatly increase your simplex operation capability.

    I purchased the same handheld but, I've had problems downloading the program. Also, I charged the battery for a few days. When I went to turn it on, the battery was dead. Your input is appreciated. Since I'm a newbie, I'm wondering if it is worth the cost. Thank you.
