The first thing I do with all Terrapin X bearings is to wash them with dish detergent and water. Gets out all the machining fragments and oil....fjh123

Can Mineral Spirits be dangerous? Is it bad if you inhale it?

@KingJulien12 It can be. Be sure to read the warnings on the label and use a little bit of common sense when using it and you should be fine.

You could just stop being a tight arse and buy a new bearing, to save yourself the time and faff. If you can't spare the pennies then I suggest rinsing it out with water before applying the lube. Just so that any leftover degreaser (and there will be some traces left since it wasn't dried properly/adequately) doesn't break down the fresh lube.

@condowallace Rinsing a bearing with water is probably the worst advice ever for a bearing. Bearings are made of steel and water creates rust.

@Luuuke Most decent quality bearings are made from stainless steel, so they shouldn't be affected by water. Also, I maybe should have mentioned to dry them out thoroughly to make sure no water is present.

@condowallace Stainless steel bearings can rust too. They're stain-less, not stain-proof. It's just a bad idea to use anything with water on anything that's metal.
