its a cultute movement around the 90's placed in Olympia, basically a mix between punk (sometimes indie music) and feminism. It had a lot of zines and was related with "do it yourself" too. Its actually wrote "grrrl" not "girl". Kathleen Hanna is one of the main leaders of the movement, with her band Bikini Kill promoted causes such as women liberation and gay rights. you should read some of those song lyrics, also kathleen had a solo project called julie ruin, and le tigre is her current band.

Just my opinion. The L Word is a ground breaking show. To help support the creators and actors of the show the best thing to do is to buy the seasons on dvd. The reason so many great shows go off the air and disappear is the lack of viewer's support. So if you are a true fan either get Showtime or purchase the dvds. Remember that Showtime and other networks only respond to how many viewers and the profit they can make from a show. So if we want the L Word to continue we have to do our part.
