The Snowy Plover - Roadrunner of the Beach

This fast moving little bird is a snowy plover. This was taken on Christmas day on a beach in central California.

Uh, cool bird there, but it is NOT a Roadrunner! I've had lots of those in my yard so I know the difference.

no kidding, it's a snowy plover. roadrunner was meant figuratively, not literally.

Snowy Plovers ruin the beach. You can't play frisbee or fly a kite or bring your dog to the beach because of them.

I hope they go extinct, they aren't fit enough to survive, Darwin wouldn't mind.

Are these any relation to killdeers? We had a lot of those back at the place where I grew up. As children, my brother and I would chase after them... but I only managed to catch one once. The parents actually draw you away from the nest in an effort to protect their offspring!

Oh...I see! I've seen those on the beach before but forgot what they were called. I'm back out in the desert and have 2 giant Roadrunners in my yard every morning squawking for handouts...those Snowy Plovers look equally cool, though! Good to know...thanks!
