This is much better than football or soccer or basketball. I can bet there is less injuries and the kids have real self confidence.

@samurai1882 Im of a differnet opinion. Kids should definitely do this, it shapes their characters as they learn discipline, courage and skills to defend themselves in a real situation. besides that it really makes fun, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, a lesson everyone learns in life. besides that, the pain isnt that huge.

@SpacePotato wait you cant punch to head but knees to head are ok lol
-
lol they looked like dwarfs!!! :D

The "red" belt wasn't a rank belt- it was marking the sides so the judges could score the match. If you'll look closer, you'll see both fighters were yellow belts.
-
i think they should hv let the kids fight thier own belt level. that yellow belt kid was heavyly beaten by that red belt kid. poor thing...

In Kyokushin you DON'T punch the head. Because in adult rules they have no fist protection. And it's a bit weird to learn the kids to do so, just because they have fist protection, and say later on: You can't do that!

They got gear on. Why ain't they punchin' in the head area? I know it's Kyokushin though.

There is no punching to the head, because kyokushin tournament rules don't allow punching to the head. They wear helmets because they are kids, and kicks and knees to the head are allowed.

I don't know about that... It might not be right for everyone, but it has been quite a good thing for my little brat and some of his little friends so far. As for this tournament, there were probably no more injuries than you would have at your average all-day soccer tournament with a couple hundred kids.
