Ehh. It was okay. the dancing could have had a little more going on.

:( I had a big comment that I was trying to cut to 500 characters! haha. It accidentally got deleted. But my opinion, in a nutshell, was that copying another production of a play is begging for comparison, etc. Oh! And I'm sry I probably came off as some creep, but I'm glad we agree to disagree
Ya, I love this show! I'm GUESSING it didn't last long on broadway because it's kinda hard to grasp the whole plotline in only one viewing, so people probably just got confused and left it alone. sad.

Yes, that was the quest.
No, it was NOT as good as Broadway.
They had no intention of "competing." Hey, Broadway is Broadway.. professionals galore!
Winning a state-wide award was great for the cast and crew.
Thanks for the comments.
ps.. That's twice you've misspelled "original." .. Just a little "dig." Lighten-up!! I'm just bustin' ya.

your quest was to replicate the broadway version? Why? That's cool that you guys had real Broadway costumes! And no, I'm not dissing your talent or anything. But do you truly think this was as good as the broadway version?
And nice work getting Best Musical in the state! that's cool. Our state doesn't do that. But it's all good. I don't think it was a bad musical, I just don't think it was a good copy of the origional. Competing with Broadway is HARD!!! Especially with highschool.

Desperate? Didn't work? Insulting? This show won BEST HS MUSICAL IN THE STATE! The costumes were actual B'way. John Kander advised them to many aspects of the show that he felt B'way screwed-up. And, he was in the audience for one performance [as was writer Thompson] and apparently loved it. The objective was to replicate, not create. Yes.. agreed - the cast was magnificent.

AGAIN..amazing production value and talent. I'm outta superlatives forthe FLHS productions. Have spent hours watching them and only wish I had all of the shows in their entirety. Truly amazing. The director deserves words of praise that haven't yet been discovered!!
The costumes and set are cool, but the whole thing seems like a desperate copy of the origional Steel Pier, and it didn't work like it should have. The bandstand, the dancing, SO many things were the same as the broadway version, which I thought was rather uncreative, and insulting to the origional version. You have very talented dancers, though! they look beautiful!

"Didn't work the way it should have?" It's easy to blindly criticize. Please explain what would have made it work. Why is duplicating Broadway such a "bad" thing, especially since it was such an excellent show as is?

Duplicating a broadway show is very difficult! Especially in a highschool, where one's talent has not yet been fully developed. Broadway is full of professional singers, dancers, etcetera. Trying to copy them, having such young, inexperienced actors, is VERY difficult. And, as I said before, I think it's a bit uncreative, even if you DID have professional help.

I must remember that a 17 year old [according to your profile]is making these comments. What state are you in? I'm always interested in the viewpoints of clip-viewers from different places.
--- On a different note - STEEL PIER is an excellent show. I think it's the best stuff that Kander & Ebb ever wrote. What do you think?
